TRAMTARIA - Seven Summits

The Underestimated One
Aconcagua, 6960 m

Despite Aconcagua is the highest summit after Himalayas that offers many trails with different technical level, the mountaineers do not regard it as a source of attraction. One of the reasons is that the ascent does not require much technical skills but much time and a lot dedication, then it is extremely extinguishing and not very pleasing to the eye. As you ascend through the stones of volcanic origin it reminds you of a construction dumpsite. Nevertheless, Aconcagua`s southern wall is famous and well known from many photos. The steep wall goes straight to the heaven and is almost 3.000 m high. What matters to alpinists seems to attract the others. Aconcaqua has become an objective for ambitious trekkers who can reach easily and quickly the height of 7.000 m as nowhere else in the world but on the top of South America. Though the mountain seems quite friendly it is well-known for its severe winds. There is a wind called "viento blanco" which rules the top and is sometimes main cause why so many enthusiasts can not fulfil their dream.
